Iowa ranks #1 in the nation for share of electricity generated by clean power.
Iowa is a state leader in clean energy. The Hawkeye state鈥檚 wind, solar and storage sectors provide over 60% of the state鈥檚 electricity and are powered by nearly $25 billion in private sector investments to date.
The state鈥檚 utility-scale clean energy capacity, currently at over 13,000 MW, generates nearly $135 million annually in tax and land lease revenue for Iowa鈥檚 communities. The wind, solar and storage sectors currently employ 5,469 Iowans.
By 2030, the state is expected to add an additional 3,500 MW of utility-scale solar, 5,000 MW of wind power, and 1,000 MW of battery storage, representing a 72% increase in total clean power capacity. These projects represent $13 billion in expected private sector investment that will support Iowa鈥檚 clean energy economy by 2030. This investment will drive job creation, increase tax payments, and generate substantial land lease payments.
